Geomatic principles and techniques connected with GIS
This set of lessons introduces some basic geomatic principles and techniques connected with GIS. In particular, the first lesson after reviewing the basic principles of a map a brief history of carthography and geodesy is presented starting from Ancient Greece to the modern era.
In the second class some basic principles of geodesy are described along with the associated reference surface. Cartography principles are also presented along with the description of some maps of specific importance.
The third lesson introduces Global Navigation Satellite Systems architecture, operating principles and measuring configuration.
Eventually, LIDAR and photogrammetric techniques are discussed along with specific products like Orthophotos and Digital Elevation Models (DTMs).
